Bermuda has participated in the NatWest Island Games since 2003. The NatWest Island Games are governed by the International Island Games Association and games are held every two years. The games feature sports such as volleyball, basketball, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, golf, sailing, football, tennis, swimming, squash, basketball and triathlon to name a few.
The Games will be coming to Bermuda in 2013 and will run from July 13th to 19th, 2013. The BVA is excited to be hosting two of the games sporting events, indoor and beach volleyball.

Indoor volleyball has participated in the Island Games since the Games in Guernsey (2003). Since then, Bermuda’s Senior Teams have participated in the Island Games in Shetland (2005), Rhodes (2007), Aland (2009) and Isle of Wight (2011). The Men’s best ever finish was a Silver Medal in Shetland, while the Women have come in 4th place twice, losing the bronze medal match, in Rhodes and Aland.
In 2013, the indoor volleyball event will be hosted at Berkeley Institute and Cedarbridge Academy schools and will feature up 22 men’s and women’s teams from around the globe, and of course our very own Bermuda Team.
The beach volleyball event will be hosted at the National Sports Center – North Field. The beach volleyball event does not take place in each island games. The last beach volleyball event was hosted in Rhodes in 2007. Bermuda entered both a men’s and women’s twos team in Rhodes and are looking forward to competing on our very own home beach.
The BVA is currently looking for volunteers to help organize and run the volleyball events in 2013. Volunteer positions include linesmen, score keepers & court managers. If you are interested in helping out and making the events a success, please email bdavb@hotmail.com .
